What We Do
Advocacy
CFUW encourages its members to use their expertise to bring about change, with particular reference to women’s issues such as violence against women, early learning and child care, education, economic prosperity and the empowerment of women as leaders and decision-makers. CFUW also works on a global level for the adoption and implementation of international agreements that will protect and benefit all women and girls.
Education and Lifelong Learning
CFUW is involved in many different initiatives in the support of education. CFUW offers various study groups to its members and undertakes research projects. Clubs are also involved in school projects such as reading programs and give scholarships to graduating students entering post-secondary institutions.
Funding for Education
For women, education is the key to gender equality, economic prosperity, better health and much more. Based on this belief, CFUW has been funding women’s education since 1919. In addition, CFUW provides funding for libraries and creative arts.
Funding for Libraries and Creative Arts
The CFUW Library Award was created to promote literacy and learning by supporting innovative approaches, encouraging community involvement and advocating for the Canadian library system. The amount of the award is normally $4,000 and is set by the CFUW Charitable Trust budget.
Annual General Meetings
Each year CFUW Members from across the country come together for an Annual General Meeting and Conference. The event spans several days, combing a mix of workshops, speakers, business (e.g. resolutions, finance reports, etc.), networking and fun. The dates and location of the AGM and Conference change each year, but are usually held in late June.
